|Plant Name:||Silver Birch|
|Information:||Birch is one of the first deciduous trees to wake after the Winter and since ancient times has been seen as representing renewal and new beginnings.
The birch tree sheds part of itself almost constantly, whether catkins, leaves, twigs or seeds. It is therefore symbolic of letting go of the past, and all that we no longer need.
Although it looks delicate, it is one of the world’s hardiest trees and is able to sustain harsh conditions. Many areas damaged by forest fires or felling, are replanted with birch, which eagerly takes root and revives deforested areas.
Birch will catch light even when damp, so is ideal for kindling fires. It can be split into very thin sheets that will ignite from even the smallest of sparks. It is an excellent metaphor for re-igniting the small flickering flame of faith or vision.
|Meditation:||What fires have swept through my life and what have they razed to the ground?
What seeds of new life are growing?
What needs rekindling in my life and how can it be set aflame?
