|Plant Name:||Aquelegia / Columbine|
The unmistakable columbine is an incredibly varied species, with thousands of varieties, each delicately painted in many different colour combinations. It is the microscopic changes in the cell shapes of its flowers which produce the dramatic changes in the shape of the flower petals.
Native Americans would consume the flowers as a sweet condiment, but the roots and seeds are incredibly poisonous.
There are many different insects which feast on the nectar of columbine flowers, including bees. One variety is even pollinated by a hummingbird.
In ancient Christian symbolism, the flower represented the gifts of the Spirit: life, wisdom, understanding, direction, strength, knowledge and reverence of the Eternal One.
|Meditation:||What things have I innocently done which have been foolish upon reflection?
What gifts would I like to ask the Spirit of the Eternal One for?
What minor change in my life would have a large, positive impact upon it?
